CBT Motorcycle Course For Novice Riders
If you're older than 17 years old If you're 17 or older, an A1 license lets you loose your L plates, use a scooter or a small motorcycle, and carry a pillion rider.
A two-day course that doesn't require any tests. This is a great introduction to riding. It focuses on re-learning the main parts of a bicycle as well as slow exercises for controlling.
Compulsory basic training (CBT)
CBT is the first course any novice rider must take. It typically takes a full day to complete. If you achieve an acceptable level at the end of the course your instructor will award you an DL196 certificate of successful completion.
In this course, you will learn to operate a motorcycle. You will be supervised by an experienced instructor throughout the course of the day. You will also be given a brief theory session which will teach you about the highway code and the rules of the road as well as safe lane positioning. You'll learn how to inspect and maintain your bike, and how to carry a pillion passenger (if necessary).
The next part of the CBT is practical on-site riding. Your instructor will designate an area of safety for you to test your skills, starting slowly and performing basic safety checks, moving away and stopping the motorcycle and braking correctly. Your instructor will be in radio contact with you throughout this time and will assist you until they are satisfied that you've completed the exercises safely. level.
In this portion of the training you'll be exposed to various types of roads and traffic conditions. You'll learn to safely navigate roundabouts, traffic lights and one-way streets. Additionally, you'll be taught the basics of cornering and how to carry out the figure of 8 and emergency stop.
This is the final part of the CBT, and your instructor will take you out on a variety of different roads. You'll be in radio contact with your instructor, who will be monitoring your progress throughout the course. You'll receive an CBT DL196 certificate if you prove that you can handle a motorcycle and manage various road conditions.

Theory of Module 1 Test
The first step towards gaining an A1 license is passing the motorcycle theory test. This 40-minute test assesses your understanding of traffic rules, road signals, and general safety. It is highly recommended that you study the Highway Code before taking this test to maximize your chances of passing.
After your CBT, you'll start your first module of training on the test-capacity bicycle for your license category. If you're hoping to pass A1 the bike you will use is one of the Honda Monkey. The course will provide plenty of off-road balance as well as control exercises to prepare you for the necessary manoeuvres on the module 1 test. You will also visit the DVSA test centre to become familiar with the marking system and procedures that are used for each test.
When you have completed your course, you will be able to pass your module 1 test at a DVSA-approved motorcycle test center. You will need your CBT certificate and an original driving licence or passport with photo.

The examiner will guide you on a brief ride around the area, and you'll have 35 minutes to complete it independently. The examiner is assessing your ability to multitask while following the road's signs and will be looking for that you demonstrate good driving skills.
After successfully passing both your Module 1 and Module 2, you'll be able to take advantage of the freedoms offered by an A1 light licence. This permits you to ride a bike up to 125cc, without a learner's licence, and will not require you to display your L-plates. A1 licences also permit you to ride with a companion and you won't have to go through the CBT every two years. This is an excellent alternative for those who wish to be able to enjoy the thrill of motorcycling with a friend or partner. The next step following an A1 license is an A license that is unrestricted and requires a full driver's licence.
Module 2: Practical Test
After you've passed Module 1 and your theory test, you are now able to take the practical part of your motorcycle licence - Module 2. This test will give you an A1 licence that allows you to ride a bike up to 125cc and with power up to 11 BHP. You are also able to take a ride on motorways and transport passengers.
The Mod 2 test is a practical riding test with approximately 10 minutes of uninvolved riding. The examiner will be following you along a predetermined route with different traffic and road conditions. The route will include busy junctions, roundabouts and dual carriageways, so you'll need to be able to ride in diverse conditions.
Module 2 will test your ability to recognize the road ahead, anticipate traffic and navigate roads. This is important because it enables you to make quick decisions while driving on the road. For instance, if driving on the road and observe a car advancing towards your lane, you'll have to be able react quickly.
You'll also have to demonstrate good slow control and be able to pull away smoothly, stop with confidence and maintain speed. You must also be able to demonstrate good brakes and make an uncontrolled U-turn when required.
You'll also be assessed on how well you can signal and change gear. You'll be asked to signal prior to overtaking another vehicle, or when you exit an intersection, and change gear whenever necessary.
If you've passed both the parts of the Module 2 test, you'll be sent your A1 license in the mail. You'll then be able to ride your new bike around the countryside or commute to work in fashion and in comfort. If you decide to ride an electric scooter or a supermoto, your new A1 licence will open the door to freedom, adventure and excitement.
Licensing
This course is intended for those who have already completed Module 1 & 2 and want to improve their riding skills and develop a bond with their bike. It will usually involve more advanced exercises and training like looking through your turns and leaning to control your bike at higher speeds. It also covers hazard prevention and high speed cornering, in addition to braking and stopping at high speeds. You will be for six hours with a Ride coach and you are able to choose your own bike.
This is an excellent choice for those who are new riders who aren't sure that a full licence is what they want. This package includes the Module 1 and 2 tests, as well as the off-road skills required for your Cat A license.
You will start off on smaller bikes to familiarize yourself with your riding posture and balance, before progressing to the full bike size for your category of licence typically a 500cc motorcycle. You will own your own bike for this class and you can use your own helmet or can purchase one from us.
The BRC is an intensive 5-day course designed to provide you with the skills and knowledge necessary to become a certified motorcycle rider in Tennessee. After successful completion of the BRC can allow you to skip the written and driving tests at the TN Department of Motor Vehicles.
You must be at least 16 years old to complete the Basic RiderCourse. If you are not yet over 18 years old you must have the signature of a parent or guardian on both the Covid Release, Waiver and Indemnification forms (click here for the form) and the Motorcycle Safety Program Parent/Guardian Agreement form. Your guardian or parent will also have to sign the MSF electronic course prior to taking your BRC course.
